Now, shall we jump into what's new on Rendezvous? 🌊😌
Teppanyaki at Tokyo BayWhen it comes to Japanese cuisine, we are fervent fans. Super soft pieces of nigiri, innovative rolls, Japanese appetizers like gyoza and tempura, these dishes rank as some of our all time favorites. When we heard of Chef Joe's new Teppanyaki dining experience we had to check it out!
Joe introduced us to Tokyo Bay's teppanyaki chef, Jendry also known as J. Originally from Indonesia, J has been a teppanyaki chef for years and even worked at Aurora a few years back. Chef J walked us through his menu and helped us pick a dining option for the night. After thoughtful consideration, we settled on the "Tokyo Bay" courses. Today, that is where you can find her... right in beautiful West End!
The Tokyo Bay offers a 7 course meal. We began with a fresh seasonal salad, made with leafy greens and veggies from the Aurora hydroponic farm. Chef J also whipped up some tasty eggplant gyoza, served on a bed of sweet potato purée and garnished with micro greens. Both dishes blew our taste buds away!
Next up, your choice of tuna sashimi or snapper tempura. We got one of each! The tuna sashimi at Tokyo Bay is always the BEST on island. Chef Joe does not mess around with his fish. He has beautiful cuts of tuna, hamachi and tuna belly all expertly broken down from a 1500 lbs tuna. As for the snapper, these are battered and fried golden-brown, and served along with a deep fried Shiso leaf. The snapper is a culinary delight, its tender flesh enveloped in a golden-brown, crispy batter that adds a satisfying crunch to each bite.
Now, for the star of the show, the teppan seafood platter...
It was truly a delight to witness Chef J expertly prepare and grill this platter, featuring prawns, scallops, and salmon. Each was cooked to perfection on the grill, generously infused with the rich shiso butter. To add a refreshing twist, Chef grilled lemons for the platter! On the side? Three sauces to dip your seafood in... a chimichurri with ponzo sauce, a wafu sauce of apple, ginger and soya (my favorite) and a yakitori sauce. Next, the paper wrapped vegetables...
Presented as though a gift from the hydroponic garden, this dish is wrapped and heated on the grill. Upon unwrapping, the enticing aroma immediately makes your mouth water in anticipation. Chef assembles this creation with cherry tomatoes, asparagus, carrots, and shiitake mushrooms. Time for the U.S. beef sirloin...
Cooked to your preferred temperature and served with tasty garlic chips. This steak goes perfectly with each of those sauces. Feeling satisfied? We certainly were! However, the night was far from over. Next up, Chef prepared a captivating garlic fried rice with a mesmerizing egg show (our jaws were on the floor!)...
Chef J puts his heart into this fried rice! Simple and filling we ate every grain and vegetable, leaving no trace behind. To wind down the evening, Chef served a warm miso soup, with tofu cubes, and scallions. A bowl of comfort and flavor.
Our favorite part of any dining experience? The dessert! Louise's top pick at Tokyo Bay was luckily up for grabs...
Lovers of Creme Brûlée will want to eat this dish all day. Chef serves this classic with a black sesame tuille. The teppanyaki experience at Tokyo Bay is an absolute must-try for any Asian cuisine enthusiast. Chef J's entertaining and skillful approach transforms the night into an unforgettable and enjoyable culinary adventure.
