Update 2009: The Viceroy Anguilla resort is now completed.
Update 2016: Four Seasons Anguilla assumes management of Viceroy Anguilla.
Well we've officially lost the Cocoloba Resort that was once so majestically perched between Mead's and Barnes Bay.
The Cocoloba Resort has been bought and sold several times. Each time, the new owner tried a new concept. But something about that place always seemed to be jinxed. It's a mystery why such a wonderful resort in such a perfect spot should always fail.
Now, a new group, Viceroy (based in California) has taken it over. And they aren't fooling around. They demolished the whole place. And they are replacing it with an amazing development of ultra-luxurious Viceroy Anguilla condominiums and villas.
We met this group of ambitious developers. And all I can say is that anyone crazy enough to jump off the cliffs here are gutsy enough to make this work.
Here is how the promontory between Barnes Bay and Meads Bay, which used to feature the main Cocoloba building, looks pre-construction...
You hardly recognize it if you remember Cocoloba. It's been completely razed and replaced with a sales office for your multi-million dollar Anguilla villas (get yours now!) or condos.
I must say, the view from the sales office is stupendous. A nice place to work!
The next stage will be construction. The masterplan stretches villas and condos from Eastern Barnes Bay (completing Barnes as a truly luxurious beach) to Western Meads Bay. The Viceroy Anguilla villas sell for millions, while the condos are a cool million or so. Naturally, you get an infinity edge pool included for that price!
