The baptismal font is especially beautiful. The base is a sculpture of sea grass and the font is a shell.

Reading Darlene's story of her "day-trip" to Anguilla was a complete repeat of our story.
We traveled the Caribbean since 1978 and "hit" a different island for a 10-14 day vacation each year. We vowed never to "hit" the same island twice until we spent a week in St. Maarten and did the same thing, took a "day-trip" to Shoal Bay Beach.
While there we promised to make our next vacation destination, Anguilla. The following year we followed through and stayed at what then was Shoal Bay Resort next to Uncle Ernie's.
After a few days there we said; "Remember that vow we made to never "hit" the same island twice?" Well that was it. We made history We've been back to Anguilla 11 times without any other island visits in between.
We found the best combination of great people, terrific food and breathtaking beaches of any of the many islands we've traveled. We'll be back next April, 2009 for another two-week stay...can't wait.
Here's a beautiful picture of the interior of St. Gerard's Catholic Church. I'll post other pics of it available if Darlene (or anyone) is interested.

Looks like the parishioners of St. Gerard's in The Valley ran out of room and are building a newer, larger church in the same style!
Nori's Reply: Thanks so much Clayton for the news update. Yes, there have been fundraisers and I love the similar style, larger size. I can't wait to see it next time I pass through The Valley. :-)

Simply Beautiful
I was visiting Anguilla with my friend Carol who lived in Anguilla for 6 years and owned Mango's Restaurant. We were out sightseeing and saw this breathtaking church. One of the most beautiful churches I have ever seen...
Nori's Reply: Ahhh... St. Gerard's Church is one of my favorites too. The mosaic-style stone work is truly breathtaking, as you said.
A second church sits right next to the original St. Gerard's Church today. It is much larger, in the same style, but less intricate.
Thank you for sharing these photos!

One of many souvenirs we have is a hand-painted ceramic tile of St. Gerard's Parish. For anyone interested, it was purchased from Alicia's Gift Shop in the Valley (same building as the Anguilla Vision Center).
