We have been visiting Anguilla for over 25 years and our home away from home has become Sydans Apartments and Villas. Anne Edwards and her family run this charming Inn in Sandy Ground and welcome us like we were family each year when we return.
We have watched Sydans grow over the years and now it has various rooms and apartments to meet your individual needs. Walk across the street to the beach and various restaurants all with out the need for a car! Hard to beat!
Reply by Nori: Thanks very much, Ray and Cheryle, for bringing up a hidden gem for the budget-careful. When you stay in Sandy Ground (more on hotels/villas in Sandy Ground by clicking here), you're in a neat little seaside, port-neighborhood. That can be cool and fun, or it may be louder than you like.
Sandy Ground is the quintessential cool little Caribbean port, literally a thin strip of land between beach on the West and Road Salt Pond on the East, one road running straight down the middle.
You cross the street from Sydans and stroll along Sandy Ground beach in less than a minute. It's a gentle beach, with small lapping waves.
On a busy day, you'll see sailors who've moored here with their gorgeous sailboats, tourists burnt to a crisp, children playing in the sand (local families and older kids come here to relax and play) and all sorts of good restaurants and bars on the beach. You can also watch the workers on the cargo pier, off-loading and on-loading the freighters. They work into the night. And when day turns into night...
There are several nightspots (Johnno's, Elvis', Pumphouse -- it is Anguilla's rocking spot). You'll meet those people sailing the Caribbean, who drop anchor here. So for the young and the young-at-heart, who like are on a budget and like to party, it's a great spot to be in.
The back side of SydAns does overlook the Pond, "the quiet side." Sitting on the porch overlooking the pond is quite a different scene, just you and the waterfowl. Ask for a duplex overlooking the pond.
I've heard the owners are extremely hospitable. If anyone else has stayed there, I'd love to hear your experiences, too! :-)
Thanks again, Ray and Cheryle, for sharing your special Anguilla accommodation with everyone.
Warm regards, Nori

Sydans is a nice place located on Sandy Ground which is affordable to the traveller who wants a room that includes everything.
The Owner, Anne Edwards, is always around to help you with what ever you need, whether it be shopping, laundry or just to have a chat. Rooms are clean and there is even free internet service which you don't see in all hotels.
